Moscow restaurants

It is the thumb rule that when in a foreign country you should try local food; this is actually part of the way of experiencing a new culture and enriching one's personal knowledge of a place. What is the traditional Russian food you should try? Cold soups based on sour milk are a good start for a first course, but you can also go for a hot soup like Rassolnik that is basically a salty-sour cucumber dish.

Pelmeni is another great dish made of minced meat with spices, wrapped in a special dough and boiled in all sorts of sauces.

This traditional recipe bears the mark of the Tatar influence on the Russian cuisine. Most dishes are actually a combination of the Slavic and Asian cooking traditions that happily meet in Russian gastronomy.

Among the coziest restaurants in Moscow, Barashka occupies a top place; here you can have the nicest Caspian soup in town in a perfect atmosphere and at a fairly decent price.

If a fancy restaurant is the thing you are actually after, then, Caf é Pushkin is a good suggestion. The specialty of the house is the creamy cabbage soup called solyanka and pancakes with black caviar. The truth is that this restaurant is a bit more expensive, but if you feel like spoiling yourself, it is one of a kind. Bon appetit!
